BARC Privacy Policy

August 15, 2023

Bay Area Restoration Council (BARC) cares about your privacy. This Privacy Policy outlines the types of information we collect from our website visitors, how we use and protect that information, and the third-party services we use to gather data.

What information do we collect about you?

Personally identifiable information

BARC collects personally identifiable information from you only with your knowledge and consent. We do not collect any personally identifiable information through our own website and/or store it in an online environment, other than the information you submit to us either in an online form, via email or when you sign up for our email newsletters.

Non-personally identifiable information

We collect non-personally identifiable information from you in order to better understand how our website is used. Usage statistics are gathered in a non-intrusive manner. The log files are private documents and are primarily used by the server administrator for error notification, server administration and to monitor website performance. At times, portions of the log files may be viewed by others for the purpose of server administration, security or when required by law. Your IP address is never referenced to personally identifiable information.

Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to collect and gather website statistics so that we may better understand the needs of our audience. Google Analytics collects information including: the website address referring visitors to BARC’s website, how long visitors stay on BARC’s website, what pages are visited, the kind of computer being used to visit BARC’s website, and general geographic location. If you would like to opt out of Google Analytics tracking, click here to download a browser plugin that will ensure that you are not tracked on the BARC website or any other site you visit with Google Analytics enabled.

Cookies
Some pages on this website use a technology called “cookies”. A cookie is a token that a server gives to your browser when you access a website. Cookies are capable of storing many types of data to help provide additional functionality to the website or to help us analyze website usage. For instance, our server may set a cookie that remembers a visitor’s login information for future visits. In all cases in which cookies are used, we will not collect personally identifiable information except with your explicit permission. With most Internet browsers, you can erase cookies from your computer hard drive, block all cookies, or receive a warning before a cookie is stored. Please refer to your browser instructions or help screen to learn more about these functions.

How is this information collected?

We do not sell, trade, make public, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your personally identifiable information unless we provide you with advance notice, and you agree to this sharing. The term “outside parties” does not include BARC. It also does not include website hosting partners and other parties who assist us in operating our website, conducting our business, or servicing you, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. We may release your information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect rights, property or safety.

E-mail Distribution List
We will never exchange, lend or sell our e-mail mailing list to anyone. Information submitted to us is only available to employees managing this information for purposes of sending you e-mails and to contracted service providers for purposes of providing services relating to our communications with you. We use our electronic newsletter and email for communicating to individuals from whom we have received consent. If you sign up for our e-mail newsletter, we require only your e-mail address. Each newsletter that we distribute will display the e-mail address of the recipient with simple instructions on how to unsubscribe (opt-out) from the distribution list. Each e-newsletter will also contain a link that will allow you to login in to the e-mail system and change the data that is there so that you are always in control of the information you provide. Statistics are gathered from the e-mails in order to track the effectiveness of the mailings. We never share, sell, or rent this information to anyone. This information is only used for our own internal purposes.
