Woodward Wastewater Treatment Plant

The Woodward Avenue Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is the largest WWTP in the Hamilton Harbour watershed and treats the majority of wastewater for the City of Hamilton, including Ancaster, Glanbrook and Stoney Creek. The plant currently has secondary treatment with chlorine disinfection. Major upgrades including tertiary treatment are planned to improve performance. Tertiary treatment is an advanced treatment that removes more nutrients (such as phosphorous) and contaminants that cannot be removed with secondary treatment.

The remediation of Randle Reef and the upgrades to the Woodward WWTP are the two biggest projects necessary to de-list Hamilton Harbour as an Area of Concern.
