Westdale ravine is located just north of the centre of Westdale Village adjacent to Churchill Park. The ravine follows the south shore of Cootes Paradise, the largest naturally protected marsh at the western end of Lake Ontario. The ravine features a deeply cut sand-plain landscape, a spring-fed creek and some of the largest trees on Royal Botanical Gardens property. There are multiple trails within the ravine, most notably Sassafras Trail – a 1.6km long (roundtrip) trail that connects Ravine Road Trail to Sassafras Point. Sassafras Point provides excellent views of Cootes Paradise Marsh and important waterfowl staging habitat.
