The tributaries of Grindstone Creek, in particular the creeks in Hendrie Valley, are the perfect spot see some of our watershed’s fish species. Visitors exploring these trails can expect to see herring and spottail shiner during the spring months, and chinook salmon – native to the west coast – in the fall. Visit the Hendrie Valley trails around Thanksgiving for the best chance to see these incredible fish swim upstream. More than 60 species of fish inhabit the waters owned by the Royal Botanical Gardens. Fish surveys are regularly conducted in order to study population levels, breeding success and responses to restoration efforts.
