Frequently Asked Questions

The Bay Area Restoration Council (BARC) offers educational programs to schools located within the Hamilton Harbour Watershed. Please refer to the Hamilton Harbour Watershed Map below or contact us to determine if your school or organization is located within the watershed’s boundary.
If you are interested in booking programming with BARC, please complete our online BARC Education Program Request Form. You can also contact Hannah Mackey, our Education and Outreach Coordinator at hannah@bayarearestoration.ca for further questions and inquiries.
While BARC may deliver multiple presentations to different classes in a single day, BARC will only deliver one type of program on the day of. If you would like BARC to visit your school on multiple dates, or if you are interested in multiple programs, you must submit a new form for each program you request.
Please note that after your booking request is received, participating organizers must sign and complete a BARC waiver form along with a schedule for the day. Failure to provide the required documents 72 hours PRIOR to your scheduled program will result in a cancellation of your booking with BARC.
Once you have submitted your BARC Education Program Request Form, you will receive an e-mail confirmation with a copy of your completed form. Our staff will review your form and contact you within 5 business days.

Indoor Programs: Classroom Mini Marsh, Home to Harbour, Stream Scientists, Ribbit! & Turtle Crossing.
Outdoor Programs: Yellow Fish Road
Both Indoor and Outdoor Programs: Stream of Dreams & Water School
In the event of inclement weather, BARC holds the right to cancel your program booking. The cancellation may vary depending on the program you have chosen. If your event is canceled, a BARC staff will coordinate with you to reschedule your program.
Home to Harbour, Stream Scientists, Ribbit! & Turtle Crossing
In the event of inclement weather (e.g., snow, ice storm) BARC will cancel the event if the school buses are canceled and/or the BARC staff member is unable to safely travel to the school.
Yellow Fish Road
BARC will cancel the program if the weather conditions prohibit outdoor participation (e.g., rain, heavy wind, snow).
Water School & Stream of Dreams
BARC will cancel this program if the weather conditions prohibit outdoor participation (e.g., rain, heavy wind, snow) and the school is unable to conduct the program inside.
Groups: BARC requires every group to have at least one adult staff member and/or volunteer present during the program. If the group exceeds 30 children, there should be two adult members present in addition to the BARC staff. BARC staff are never responsible for group supervision.
Schools: The classroom teacher(s) must always be present during school programming. BARC staff are never responsible for classroom supervision.
If you need to cancel your BARC program, inform the BARC staff as soon as possible. Please allow at least 24 hours for a cancellation. To cancel, you can email the staff member who booked your program or the Education and Outreach Coordinator at hannah@bayarearestoration.ca.
