BARC Staff
Chris McLaughlin, PhD, MSc
Executive Director
Chris has been BARC’s executive director since 2011. Chris holds a PhD from McMaster University in environmental governance, is adjunct faculty in McMaster’s School of Earth, Environment & Society, and teaches environmental policy in McMaster’s Arts & Science program. Chris serves as the Canadian co-chair of the International Joint Commission’s Great Lakes Water Quality Board and also co-chairs the Advisory Board to the Global Center for Climate Change and Transboundary Waters.
Kaeley Cole, M.BEMA, BSc
Program and Technical Lead
Kaeley studied biology at McMaster University, holds a master of bioenvironmental monitoring and assessment degree from Trent University, and has worked for the Royal Botanical Gardens, the Hamilton Conservation Authority, the Ontario Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks, and the Nature Conservancy of Canada. Kaeley manages curriculum-based educational programs and community-based environmental monitoring, and provides technical leadership on all organizational activities, communications, and special projects such as mapping and spatial analysis.
Sloan Kennedy, BSc
Program and Technical Intern
Sloan studied biology with a minor in psychology at McMaster University. She will be pursuing a master’s degree in sustainability from Western University in the fall. Sloan contributes to educational and volunteer programming, with principal responsibility for creating intellectual property and new ways to engage participants.
Claire Hannah, BSc
Community Engagement Coordinator
Claire studied marine and freshwater biology at the University of Guelph. Currently she is completing a master’s degree in geography from the University of Guelph while working as a graduate teaching assistant. Claire has principal responsibility for creating digital resources and engaging with partner organizations.
Mackenzie Priamo, BA
Technical Advisor
Mackenzie studied geography, environmental studies, and earth sciences at McMaster University. She earned a certificate in GIS and is currently enrolled in the environmental technology program at Mohawk College. Mackenzie acted as BARC’s Program and Technical Intern in 2025, contributing to programming, with principal responsibility for creating new intellectual property using spatial analysis, mapping, and digital storytelling. Mackenzie remains an advisor at BARC.
Angela Dittrich, JD, MES, BSc
Law and Policy Advisor
Angela completed the Integrated Science program at McMaster University with a concentration in biochemistry and a minor in psychology. She holds a master’s degree in environmental studies with a graduate diploma in business and the environment from York university. Angela also earned the degree Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School and is now an Associate at Evans Philp LLP. Angela acted as BARC’s Law and Policy Coordinator in 2025, leading projects that significantly enhance BARC’s governance, strategic planning, and communications, and she remains an advisor at BARC.
