Chris McLaughlin, PhD, MSc
Executive Director
Chris has worked in the environmental sector since 1990 and as BARC’s executive director since 2011. Chris holds a PhD from McMaster University in environmental governance, is adjunct faculty in McMaster’s School of Earth, Environment & Society, and teaches environmental policy in McMaster’s Arts & Science program. Chris is the Canadian co-chair of the International Joint Commission’s Great Lakes Water Quality Board and co-lead of the Board’s Climate Change Adaptation project.
Grace Hunter, MEnvSc
Program and Communications Coordinator
Grace is an experienced science communication professional who has published popular science articles with Cottage Life, Chatelaine, Hakai Magazine, and Atlas Obscura. Prior to joining BARC, she worked with Royal Botanical Gardens, Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, and the Georgian Bay Biosphere. Grace has a graduate diploma in science communication from Laurentian University and a Master’s in Environmental Science from University of Toronto.
Hannah Mackey, MA
Education and Outreach Coordinator
Hannah graduated from McMaster University in 2022 with a Master’s in Geography, and in 2020 with an undergraduate in Geography and Environmental Studies. Hannah has also completed the Teaching and Learning Scholar Certificate through McMaster University, designed to hone pedagogical and teaching skills. She has several years of experience teaching environmental-related topics to university students, and has a passion for educating others on the importance of environmental stewardship.
